There comes a moment when a dream becomes so relentless that the pursuit of it not only pushes you beyond your comfort zone but also takes you to places you never thought were possible to reach. While the notion of chasing dreams is often romanticised, very few truly acknowledge the grit, sweat, and tears that come along for the journey. This is true of my own dream; my African dream.
Starting Red Rocket has been the manifestation of that dream, and while we’ve seen countless days of uncertainty, we have recorded successes that defy the odds. It all had to be bold, and it had to be scary. But what began as a single idea has transformed into a vision shared by many who now hold it as their own. This is because a dream doesn’t make an impact if it stops with one individual.
The path to this point has been fraught with bumps, potholes, and moments of doubt, but over time, laughter and celebration followed, showing that our efforts were leading us in the right direction. The greatest lesson I’ve learnt, especially in the beginning of this journey, is the power of improvisation; and with this simple task, we have made things work.
What has truly inspired me is our story’s evolution from a one-man team, often working from hotel lobbies, to a dynamic group of people who would later win project after project. Additionally, it has been heartening to see that growth extend beyond the company, enriching the lives of our Rocketeers and their families as well.
Our company manifesto reads: “We dream of a world moved by the energy that nature can create. Free yourself from limiting beliefs like a rocket frees itself from the forces of gravity. Dare to be crazy enough to think you can change the world. And become someone that actually does. You are. We are. A Force of Nature.”
These are the words we live by at Red Rocket, capturing the essence of our history. It’s about where we come from and where we are destined to be. Today, while working from our Mothership at the majestic Cape Town Cruise Terminal, we continue to build on this dream with the boldness and relentlessness that inspired it in the beginning.
