2011

Into Africa.

• Red Rocket’s journey begins when Building Energy decided to expand its business geographically into Africa. • Building Energy participates and is awarded a project in South Africa’s first bidding round of REIPPPP in 2011.

2012

Cape Town.

• Head office in Cape Town is opened. • The business model expanded into other renewable energy technologies and integration with EPC, O&M, and development.

2014

• Kathu, 81MW solar farm, reaches COD. • Sikasso, 50MW solar project in Mali is awarded preferred bidder.

2015

• Kruisvallei Hydro 4MW and Roggeveld Wind 147MW projects are awarded preferred bidders in round 4 of the REIPPPP.

2016

• Tororo Solar (10MWp solar project in eastern Uganda) reaches financial close and starts construction.

2018

• Kruisvallei and Roggeveld start construction. • Total headcount reaches 118.

2019

• Awarded preferred bidder for the 48.5MW GET FiT project in Zambia.

2020

Red Rocket Launch

• Red Rocket Management led buy-out of Building Energy with the ambition to become the leading, fully integrated African IPP.

2021

Ride or Die

• Red Rocket wins 3 wind projects in Bid Window 5, totaling 364MW.

2022

Reinventing Our Future Again.

• Red Rocket grows significantly in 2022 with a headcount exceeding 150. • Continued to successfully win and develop projects and now has 1GW of projects in operations, under construction, and near financial close. • Virginia and Good Hope are awarded preferred bidder in Round 6, totaling close to 500MW.

2023

Unleashing Explosive Growth.

• Red Rocket team reaches almost 200 headcount. • Witberg Wind Farm 108MW, Red Rocket’s first C&I project, reaches financial close and starts construction. • Portfolio of projects in operations, under construction, and near financial close rose to over 2.7GW.

2024

Continued Growth.

• Achieved financial close for Virginia Solar Park, the largest grid-connected solar farm in Africa to date. • Portfolio of projects in operations, under construction, and near financial close rose to over 3.7 GW.
