Blasting off from Rocket City, Red Rocket makes power moves at AEF 2025

Powerful energy discussions, celebrations of strategic partnerships, and bold launches into transformative innovation.

These were the defining moments of the 2025 edition of Africa Energy Forum (AEF) in Cape Town, known as Rocket City. Organised by Energy Net, the continent’s foremost platform once again delivered on its promise, uniting key decision-makers, innovators, and stakeholders to shape Africa’s energy future.

With the mission of the four-day event revolving around solutions on how to power our world sustainably, the Red Rocket pavilion, E62, provided the perfect viewpoint as we showcased our projects, people, and dedication to driving South Africa’s energy transition forward as the proud city host.

Numerous attractions such as branded merchandise and simulated rocket launches from the cleverly designed exhibition stand attracted many, reflecting the bold nature of our ambitions and why we aren’t held down by limitations.

Rocketeers came, saw, conquered, and inspired as the faces of Red Rocket, networking with top minds and adding their voices to key discussions as strategic partnerships were launched into orbit. The highlights included a celebratory moment honouring South Africa’s largest single commercial wind project, Overberg Wind Farm, with Richards Bay Minerals/Rio Tinto and Discovery Green. The event brought together Red Rocket CEO Matteo Brambilla, Rio Tinto’s Bradley Reddy, and Discovery Green’s Andre Nepgen, all aligned on a business venture powered by renewable energy.

Continuing that momentum, Red Rocket CFO, Giacomo Brambilla, joined Rand Merchant Bank’s Investment Banking Director, Dario Musso, to spotlight a partnership built on trust and a shared vision of a long-standing partnership reinforced for the good of advancing Africa’s energy solutions. In a light, yet purposeful moment, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to innovative financing that helps turn large-scale renewable energy projects into reality.

Closing off the event’s pivotal moments was the signing of the EPC contract for Tournee Solar Park, a 335MW project in Mpumalanga poised to be among South Africa’s largest developments. The collaboration between Red Rocket (represented by COO Luca Silva) and PowerChina’s leading subsidiary, HDEC (represented by Vice President of HDEC International, Zou Zengqiang), signified a new dawn not only for Red Rocket, but the country’s continuation of sustainable power, captured in a powerful photo moment of unity, ambition, and progress.

As AEF drew to a close, one message rang clear, South Africa is riding the wave of a bold era of renewable energy opportunities founded on meaningful collaborations. Red Rocket is proud to stand at the forefront of this transformation, helping to set Africa’s energy future into motion. We’re preparing the engines to launch into AEF 2026!
