Children and staff at the Donald Duck Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in Laingsburg can now breathe a sigh of relief, thanks to a fence-installation project by Roggeveld Wind Farm.
This significant initiative was launched in response to an ECD needs analysis conducted last year, which highlighted safety and security concerns in the area, among others. The project was initiated to reduce the alarming frequency of break-ins that had been plaguing the centre.
Contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), the project was successfully completed, providing a secure environment for the children and staff. Teachers at the centre have expressed their immense gratitude, noting that the new fence provides peace of mind, allowing them to focus on the critical work of nurturing and educating the children without worrying about potential security threats.
“We are incredibly thankful for the completion of this project. It’s a huge relief to know that the children are safe and that we can continue to provide the high-quality early childhood education they deserve without the constant worry of break-ins,” said one of the teachers at the Donald Duck ECD Centre, which educates over 100 children.
Investing in ECD is an investment in the future – of individuals, communities, and nations. Not only is this vital for each child’s individual growth, but also in terms of fostering healthier, safer, and more prosperous societies.
The project’s completion marks a crucial milestone in ensuring the sustainability and growth of the centre, reinforcing the importance of community collaboration in enhancing the quality of life and education for children. With the children benefiting from improved safety at the centre, the fencing project is a shining example of how targeted support can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
