In our continued commitment to ensuring that our projects benefit the communities we serve, hope has been renewed in Uganda’s Tororo District, where our Tororo Solar North facility is making a meaningful impact. Through an empowering partnership with Give Us Wings Uganda (GUWU), Tororo Solar North is bringing clean, reliable water to Asinget “B” Village in Kayoro Sub-county – ushering in a new chapter of resilience and progress for the community.
More than 15 years ago, GUWU built St. John’s Kayoro Health Centre II (SJKHCII) to serve local families, and today it provides care to over 20,000 people each year. A borehole installed at the time supplied water to the clinic and surrounding households.
However, in December 2023, the borehole failed, leaving the health centre and 3,271 community members across 95 households without easy access to water. This made it challenging for the clinic to deliver quality care and for families to maintain good hygiene.
In response, Tororo Solar North, together with GUWU and other dedicated partners, has drilled a new borehole and installed a solar-powered water system. This revitalising project will:
- Provide clean, safe water for the health centre and the wider community.
- Support better hygiene and sanitation for families.
- Harness solar energy to power the system, reducing dependence on non-renewable sources.
This initiative advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy) by delivering lasting, eco-friendly solutions to rural communities.
Tororo Solar North remains committed to uplifting lives and fostering sustainable development through clean energy, innovation, and strong community partnerships.
