In celebrating our most memorable moments of 2024, we recently held our annual Red Rocket Awards – but this was no ordinary awards ceremony. Filled with humour, the event showcased the personalities of our Rocketeers, offering a fun and light-hearted look at our everyday moments.
Whenever we talk of any awards ceremonies, though, thoughts of well-dressed celebrities come to mind, along with shiny trophies and acceptance speeches. But the most important part about awards are the stars, and this year, four of them stood out for their impact and invaluable contribution.
We recognised two winners each in the Stand Out Performer and Rising Star Award categories, and it has not only been a pleasure getting to welcome each of them to Red Rocket, but to also witness their hard work and dedication in flying our Rocket high.
Ryan Collins and Tainton Hutton, from the Sustainable Investments and the Operations and Maintenance teams respectively, were named this year’s Stand Out Performers, while Phindiwe Bambata and Denzil Moyaga, from the IT and Marketing and Communications teams respectively, were this year’s Rising Stars.
These are Rocketeers whose hard work has spoken volumes. Voted by the leadership team, their contribution is not only visible to their teams, but the organisation as a whole. As they reflect on their journey at Red Rocket, we wish each of them success and more growth in the years to come. As we always say, the sky is not the limit, and for this group, there can be no truer words.
Ryan Collins
E&S Specialist
I feel very happy and grateful to be named one of this year’s Stand Out Performers. It was a very unexpected but rewarding experience.
Having started out very fresh in renewable energy, I learnt a great deal from the people who were above me, and I tried to step up and do the best I could for our team and company, despite challenges.
The experience has been very rewarding and motivating, and to have this recognition is very special to me. This year I really stepped up as much as I could!
Being with a front-runner in the renewable energy sector in the country has been very rewarding as it has always been my goal to make a sustainable difference through my work. From here, it is all about continuing to contribute to the company’s growth. I’d like to grow as much as the company grows!
Tainton Hutton
Performance & Monitoring Analyst
I did not expect to get an award at all, but I was very pleased to get this one, especially considering that of all the awards, this specific one has been one that I’ve been aspiring towards. We’ve had a busy year trying to get groundbreaking projects off the ground within the O&M team, and this is such a wonderful way for the efforts of each of the individuals in the O&M team to be recognised and celebrated – nothing is achieved alone.
One ad-hoc project I’ve personally been privileged to be involved in has been our new and improved Command Centre with its new hi-tech screen. Having travelled to China and Germany since we started the project, I’ve learnt a great deal from the experience.
This, in many ways, is a feather in my cap and to get that acknowledgement has bolstered my momentum. This is also a motivation for everyone else in the organisation that we do get seen for our hard work, and by celebrating it, we show our support for each other a while maintaining that momentum.
Phindiwe Bambata
IT Support
This is something I didn’t see coming. Everything was so light-hearted and fun throughout the event, and then I saw my face as the award was announced.
My line manager Westley Martin is the best. Without his support, this wouldn’t have been possible and is very much reflective of his efforts.
When I joined Red Rocket, everyone welcomed me and made me feel at home. All of them, in a way, contributed to this award through their warm reception, amazing sense of support, and collaboration.
Having received this award, the future certainly looks bright. While I can say that I didn’t expect the validation, it really feels great to be awarded. From my first interview to this, I grew so much at Red Rocket, and I’m more confident because of this recognition.
Denzil Moyaga
Brand Content Coordinator
To be recognised as a rising star at Red Rocket is no small feat. This has been a wonderful journey since I joined the company in April, and I never could have imagined that I’d be up for such recognition.
I believe that rising stars are chosen for their potential, and I’m happy that I’ve been able to add to the excellence that I was already inspired by since joining the team.
Our team has been so supportive of me and my journey. It has been an exhilarating experience that I hope to keep adding to in the future. From getting involved with our birthday/brand relaunch to producing our first magazine, I’ve been grateful to immerse myself in all things brand Red Rocket and making it shine.
I expect to do more in my capacity as Brand Content Coordinator, ensuring that I help represent the brand in the best way possible.
