Chaos, comedy, and clever twists reigned supreme as we at Red Rocket pulled out all the stops to stage our hilarious comedic play, One Man, Two Guvnors from 27 to 29 November 2025 at the Homecoming Centre in Cape Town.
Debuting our spirited theatre troupe, backed by the musical prowess of our band, Jun & the Kilowatts, we proved that there is nothing that caring, creativity, and collaboration can’t achieve.
From newspaper features to radio commentary with some of the most loved radio stations in Cape Town, One Man, Two Guvnors became the talk of the town as we worked behind the scenes to put together all the elements that were highly unique for a company initiative. In true theatre fashion, we broke a leg and left it all on the stage.
The momentous show was not just about laughter and entertainment, but a show of goodwill in aid of the Cheslin Kolbe Foundation and ASSITEJ South Africa. Through these charitable organisations, Red Rocket was challenged and driven by the vision of uplifting children and youth from previously disadvantaged backgrounds through sports development, education, and the inspiring creativity of the performing arts.
This initiative was a true leveller for our teams, developing creativity and leadership skills for all Rocketeers. It was not only about having a corporate social investment initiative, but to allow all Rocketeers a sense of making a valuable impact in a unique way. The initiative joins other culture-building projects that have become the fabric of Red Rocket, such as football (through our establishment of the Renewable Energy League) and rugby.
All the Action
Even though we had never produced a play, nor have we acted on a theatre stage before, the dream was realised in a big way. We were not alone in this mission; our creative set and costumes transported theatregoers to 1960s Brighton, thanks to acclaimed Set and Costume Designer Allegra Bernacchioni and the impeccable Production Manager, Frederick Abrahamse, both illustrious names in the opera and theatre spaces, respectively.
Taking a trip down memory lane on a project spanning more than a year in the making, the cast and band spoke of the transformation that took place from training, rehearsals, and finally to the stage. Our theatre training, under theatre directors and teachers, Paul Griffiths and Tandi Buchan, exposed Rocketeers to the world of improvisation, physical and vocal training, character building, and more, unlocking their creative expression.
Taking a look back at the idea that started it all, the project was to take all Rocketeers “from bloopers to applause”, and no one expected the roaring cheers on all three nights. The first night was a sold-out attendance, with the other two nights almost sold out, thanks to our family, friends, sponsors, and fellow Rocketeers.
About 60 members of our Rocketeers family, including our CFO Giacomo Brambilla and our COO Luca Silva, morphed into stagehands and prop masters, wardrobe assistants, hair and make-up artists, and hosts, making this a truly collaborative endeavour.
Realising this dream would not have been possible without the generous sponsors who felt touched and inspired by Red Rocket’s boldness, creativity, and the spirit of giving back. Our gratitude goes out to our platinum sponsors: Adenco Construction, Giant Leap, HDEC SA, and Huawei; our gold sponsors: ABSA, Atlantic Energy Partners, Bill Kilgore Investments, Eaglestone Capital Advisory, Norton Rose Fulbright, Goldwind, Sungrow, and Power Group; our silver sponsors: ACTOM, EnergyNet, and GIB, and our bronze sponsor, Nedbank.
Their collaboration came with all their passion, generosity, and shared dedication to building something meaningful for our community. More than anything, they applauded and helped champion our commitment till the curtain call. In a further impactful gesture, costumes, props, and set design for One Man, Two Guvnors were created in proud collaboration with Cape Town Opera, whose artistry and technical expertise helped bring this production to life.
In keeping with our commitment to sustainability, set elements from the show were donated and will soon be repurposed to support future Cape Town Opera productions, extending the show’s impact.
